Smart Technologies Meet Sustainable Agriculture: Highlights from the Smart-in-Ag Consortium Meeting in Wageningen

The Smart-in-Ag consortium meeting took place in Wageningen University & Research from 6-10 March 2023. The week was jam-packed with exciting activities and events.

To kick off the week, an informal dinner was held on Monday, 6 March, where project leader prof. Henk Hogeveen welcomed everyone to Wageningen. This was a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and catch up.

On Tuesday, 7 March, the group visited a dairy farm and technology provider, Lely, where they got to witness the latest technological advancements in action. This was followed by a factory tour of the Lely Campus in Maasluis and a city tour of Amersfoort, which was topped off with a delicious Indonesian dinner.

Wednesday, 8 March, started with the Smart-in-Ag board meeting, followed by the WISE conference, which showcased several impressive oral presentations. The conference was hosted perfectly by the organisation committee.

Thursday, 9 March, was the day of the consortium meeting. Each Smart-in-Ag PhD candidate presented their progress, shared their publications, and provided insights into new projects of IPB University. In the afternoon, the group joined the Dies Natalis of Wageningen University & Research, which was focused on the theme of Blue Transitions: Shaping Sustainable Marine Futures – perfectly aligning with one of the key pillars of Smart-in-Ag.

Finally, on Friday, 10 March, Muchammad Gumilang successfully defended his PhD thesis on the uptake of mitigation measures against highly pathogenic avian influenza in Western Java, and everyone celebrated this great achievement.

The Smart-in-Ag consortium meeting in Wageningen was an enriching and exciting experience, bringing together a diverse group of people to share knowledge and ideas about smart technologies in agriculture.
